Tom De Coster is partner en leidt onze praktijkgroep Intellectuele Eigendom en Technologie.

Tom’s praktijk omvat complexe contentieuze en niet-contentieuze dossiers met betrekking tot alle soorten intellectuele eigendomsrechten (octrooien, auteursrechten, merken, enz.), IT en technologie. Hij adviseert inzake licenties, agentuurovereenkomsten, concessies, distributie, franchising, tijdelijke en langdurige dienstverlening en outsourcingovereenkomsten. Zijn team behandelt eveneens dossiers rond gegevensbescherming, cybersecurity, telecommunicatie en opdrachten in het kader van digitale EU-initiatieven.

Tom heeft een bewezen staat van dienst in het adviseren van zowel internationale als Belgische cliënten bij strategische innovaties en projecten. Dit omvat onder meer BD&L (Business Development & Licensing) en R&D in het kader van IP-commercialisering en grensoverschrijdende transacties. Dankzij zijn ervaring, is Tom bedreven in tal van complexe onderhandelingen en het opstellen van cruciale overeenkomsten die cliënten helpen hun IP-rechten te gelde te maken en hun algemene bedrijfsdoelstellingen te versterken.

Doorheen de jaren heeft Tom talrijke erkenningen ontvangen voor zijn juridisch werk en ondernemingszin, zoals vermeld in toonaangevende juridische rankings.

Tom heeft ervaring in diverse sectoren, met een bijzondere focus op de gezondheidszorg, technologie, FMCG en financiële dienstverlening. Hij verleent strategisch advies over opkomende trends, waaronder AI en GenAI, binnen deze sectoren. Hij identificeert ondernemingsrisico’s en opportuniteiten en ondersteunt cliënten bij het navigeren door complexe regelgevende kaders.

Tom is mede-auteur van meerdere artikelen over intellectuele eigendoms- en IT-recht, en spreekt regelmatig over deze onderwerpen op conferenties en seminaries.

Voor zijn komst naar Strelia, was Tom bijna 15 jaar actief als advocaat in intellectuele eigendom en technologie binnen de IP/TMT-afdeling van een toonaangevend Magic Circle-kantoor.

Opleiding

Tom behaalde zijn diploma in de rechten magna cum laude aan de KU Leuven (2010), een Master of Laws aan Columbia Law School in New York (2015), en een Master of Laws magna cum laude met specialisatie in intellectuele eigendom en informaticarecht aan de KU Leuven Campus Brussel (2016).
