Olivier Clevenbergh is mainly active in the field of M&A and corporate law. He deals with national and international acquisitions and disposals of shares or assets, private equity and venture capital transactions, mergers and joint ventures. He has considerable experience as regards restructurings and the acquisition of the assets of distressed companies.
He has also specific expertise in commercial law, more in particular in the field of retail and distribution law and is an acknowledged specialist in franchising.
Olivier Clevenbergh combines his transactional practice with a contentious practice covering the same areas. He therefore also represents clients in commercial and corporate litigation before the Belgian courts and arbitration tribunals.
Olivier was admitted to the Brussels Bar in 1989 and was admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales in 1995.
Before becoming a founding partner of Strelia in January 2013, Olivier Clevenbergh was a partner at Stibbe from 2000, heading the Corporate & Finance team. In addition to his client activities, Olivier was Managing Partner of Stibbe Brussels from 1 January 2005 until 30 June 2011. He was the Secretary General of the Alliance between Herbert Smith, Gleiss Lutz and Stibbe until 31 December 2011.
Olivier obtained his Law degree from the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in 1989 and a Specialised Degree (Licence spéciale) in Economic Law from the same university in 1991.
In Dispute Resolution, he is appreciated for his dedication to the client's cause: " “He has a lot of empathy with others and is therefore a very good negotiator. He is also very effective as a litigator” (Chambers, 2016).
